Who We Are
MOVING BEYOND TRADITIONAL DISASTER RELIEF
We are leaders who have lived through a catastrophic climate disaster or love someone who has. We are disaster response professionals, community organizers, philanthropy experts, fundraising wizards, and fiscal oversight specialists dedicated to building a new disaster relief system ready to meet the climate reality of 2025 and beyond.
We understand that someday we are all going to experience a devastating climate disaster.
Whether we survived Hurricane Katrina 20 years ago or the California Wildfires just months ago, we know that we are not victims; we are agents of change.
Only by coming together and bringing the expertise and power that each of us holds can we effectively respond to the disaster, rebuild from destruction, and reimagine a new future where we can all be safe and thrive.
Anna Fink |Executive Director |Amalgamated Foundation
“At Amalgamated Foundation, we connect resources to communities and organizations working on today’s most vital issues. This is why we’re proud to sponsor REBUILD.US as a flagship initiative. Impact-driven funders can provide immediate disaster relief and strengthen communities to lead system change with a single investment.”
Todd Zimmer |Co-Executive Director |Down Home North Carolina
“When Hurricane Helene struck western North Carolina, our ability to resource teams of community volunteers distributing water and supplies to remote and rural areas was life saving – and having funds dedicated for the long run has allowed us to ensure millions of federal rebuilding dollars are invested to protect our communities from land speculation and displacement.”
Javier Valdés |Director, Civic Engagement & Government |Ford Foundation
“We have seen time and again during natural disasters that underlying structural inequalities have a direct impact on relief and recovery efforts, and the stark inequities become even more exacerbated without intentional and meaningful intervention. REBUILD.US allows us to provide immediate relief while addressing systemic change in recovery.”
Ashley Shelton |President & CEO |Power Coalition
"Since my time at the Foundation for Louisiana leading integrated programs after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, to my current role convening local organizations around the state, I can testify that REBUILD.US will meet the moment as we face more extreme weather. This participatory model moves immediate relief to those most in need and organizes disaster survivors to lead a just recovery."
